These are the first photos from my new Tachihara 4"x5" field camera. This is essentially the same camera your Great Grandfather used in the late 1800s, except for the advent of modern lens coatings and much better film. In short, these cameras take such large negatives/chromes that 30"x38" enlargements show essentially no grain. There are many other advantages to view cameras, such as plane movements, changing film type after each shot, and access to a huge variety of lens types and manufacturers.
The downside is that everything is manual, and so far I've goofed up more shots than I've made! It also takes 10-15 minutes to get everything right, so patience is a necessity. It does make one think carefully about composition and lighting, however, and I suspect I'll become a better photographer over time...
